Description
Will Ridenour is a professional musician, instructor, and craftsman from Greensboro, NC who specializes in international folkloric percussion styles and the kora, a centuries-old harp from West Africa. Since 1997, Will has studied with master kora and percussion teachers in Mali, Senegal, Sweden, and the US, including 5 study trips to West Africa. He holds a B.A. in Anthropology from UNC-Chapel Hill and has been the recipient of four NC Arts Council grants for musical projects centering around the kora. Will has performed in 41 US states and 28 countries worldwide, and has collaborated on 17 albums and over 20 theater, dance, and film productions. As an instructor, Will has taught private lessons since 2002, and has shared his knowledge in classrooms across the country. He currently performs and records with Kaira Ba, Grand Shores, Paperhand Puppet Intervention, Rumi By Candlelight, and other collaborative projects. willridenour.com.
As one of Will’s teachers has said, “the kora cleans the heart.” Prepare for a meditative, deep, and beautiful listening experience! Will will be performing on 2 koras in different tunings, softly amplified. You will hear pieces from the traditional and contemporary kora repertoire from Senegal and Mali mixed with original compositions, as well as pieces from his many collaborations including Paperhand Puppet Intervention and Rumi By Candlelight. Will will have autographed CDs available for purchase after the concert.
