Tarboro Edgecombe Chamber of Commerce Leadership Course Leadership Edgecombe Who are we? A network of diverse leaders committed to positively impacting our community. Why does Leadership Edgecombe exist? Our vision is to develop caring, committed community leaders, connect those leaders to information, and prepare those leaders to leverage information and insights to empower and support communities within Edgecombe County. Our mission is to prepare and mobilize diverse leaders to work for the good of all Edgecombe County. The Chamber Leadership Course, is a 12 month leadership course program starting this March. Below is a tentative schedule for the year and the possible businesses/organizations we will connect with; Each day the course facilitator will cover a leadership activity with Lunch provided by a sponsor. We will also seek sponsors for the course and for the speed networking event and graduation. The sponsor for each day’s lunch will be invited to introduce themselves during the lunch or special event and will be allowed to tell about their business/organization. Intro to Leadership - the purpose of the first meeting will be to introduce the course, offer an icebreaker(s), learn about the Tarboro Edgecombe Chamber of Commerce, and will be assigned a municipality for a future visit as well as a school for a future visit. During the second portion of the day participants will attend a speed networking event where they will have the chance to meet leaders from Tarboro & Edgecombe County. Municipality Visits - groups will visit their assigned schools and will learn about the school in order to come back and report back to the group on their final day in the program. Each participant will be required to attend a municipality meeting during the course (i.e. a Town Council meeting, County Commissioners Meeting, etc.) Educational Visits - groups will visit their assigned schools to learn as much about the school system and the visiting school to include special programs, needs, etc. Groups will report on their experiences on the last day of the program. Groups are also responsible for completing a service project for the school (this could be reading with students). Participants will also survey students to learn about topics that kids are interested in learning about and will be responsible for teaching some of these skills. (i.e. balancing a financial account). Healthcare - participants will visit healthcare facilities to learn about various levels of care within the community. (ECU Health, Edgecombe County Health Dept. and the Get Off of the List Initiative), Freedom Hill, Main St. Family Medicine. Manufacturing - participants will learn about the importance of manufacturing and the supply chain. (Hitachi Astemo, LS Cable, Kanban Logistics, Madam Moorecraft Reels, World Cat, Carolinas Gateway Partnership, Kingsboro Mega Site) Agriculture - participants will learn about the importance of agriculture in Edgecombe County. (Mayo Farms, Mayo Mill, Edgecombe County Ag Extension Agent, 4H, Golden organic Farms, Freedom Org., NECP FFA) Attend this session during cotton picking season. Community, Faith Based, Non-profit - participants will learn about the importance of non-profits and will participate in a service project. (Freedom Org, Salvation Army, Tarboro Development Corporation, Edgecombe County Veterans Military Museum). There will be a hosted panel discussion of civic clubs in Tarboro (Golden Seniors, Pilot Club, Rotary Club, Women's Club, Masons). Tourism - participants will learn about tourism in Edgecombe County. Participants will visit tourism sites such as the Town of Princeville, Airbnb’s, It’s a Zoo Life, The Farmer’s Daughter at Walston Pond, the Rocky Mount Event Center, will talk to Travis Stigge Tarboro Parks & Recreation Director regarding the sports complex). Small Business Entrepreneurship - participants will learn about the importance of our small business community and the development of entrepreneurs. (Edgecombe Community College Small Business Center, Roberson & Dupree Shoe Store, Edgecombe Entrepreneurs Organization, Ainsley Construction, Henderson Lumber Co.) Workforce Development - participants will spend time learning about workforce development. (ECC, STEP, Edgecombe County Workforce Development and the Get off of the List Initiative), NC Work, OIC, TCI. Work Session - participants will have this day to work on their presentations for their final day to include their assigned municipalities, schools, and reflections on what they have learned about leadership over the course. Graduation - on the final day participants will present their projects from their assigned groups. Participants will be encouraged to invite their families and employers. Each student will be recognized and awards will be given.
